Creating a textured background for a photo

July 12, 2011

This is in a PDF format so you can print it and follow instructions.  The purpose of this is to create a standard sized background (5 x 7, 8 x 10) which will fit into a frame.  You can add the image and position on this “canvas.”

I use the noise feature and add a gaussian blur to it to create a slight marble effect.  You can work with other filters and see what effects you can get.  Process to create this is fairly quick, about 5-15 minutes depending on your experience level.

This was used in an intro to Elements class last week and students had great success.  Instructions are written for version 9 but will work with ANY version you may have.  Good luck!
