Blogging Basics

August 23, 2010

When I teach, I want students to realize how the internet or the PC is a relevant part of their lives (and not the center!).
A relevant life is more than just being online 24/7. Students are encouraged to have a life away from the computer. However, if you have a business, professional services, or wish to stay in touch, concentrating on one or two social networking sites can be useful.
One doesn’t have a lot of time to stay in touch, use a blog, twitter, facebook, or linkedin to provide/share information. Try to realize how you learn about things such as new restaurants, vacation spots, etc. Do you get them online, through actual human contact or through emails or websites?
It’s also not necessary to post daily. Consistency is a good idea…you can start off monthly (with an announcement to your frequency). Keep it short and say something relevant or useful. Don’t aimlessly ramble. Videos/images can add visual interest.
